  1. Be Realistic

First things first, be realistic with your goals! Yes, it is important to dream big, but make sure you are setting attainable goals. This most importantly applies to your fitness ambitions such as weight or body fat loss. For example, instead of trying to cut out all carbs instantly, try cut the processed ones out slowly while introducing complex carbs and veggies into your diet.

  1. Plan Ahead

While this is not always the easiest thing to do, it does make a huge difference in every aspect in life. Whether your goal is to lose fat, gain muscle, do more pull ups, run an obstacle course race, be a better employee/manager/parent, or be more engaged in the community, always try to plan ahead! Plan out your week/month (Are my meals prepared? When am I working out? How can I be most productive at work? How can I spend more time with the kids?) If you make a plan, you will get it done!

  1. Track Progress

Without tracking, success is a matter of chance. There are several ways to track progress, such as keeping a workout/ food journal, take pictures of yourself weekly, do workouts over again after a few months, etc. Success is a slow process that takes a lot of dedication and is the sums of your actions on a daily basis. Its easier to see results over time, rather then just seeing yourself in the mirror every day.

  1. Join A Community

A little friendly competition never hurt! Try to go out of your comfort zone and say hi to people at the gym taking classes with you. In creating friendships, you not only have a gym partner, but you also have someone other than yourself to hold you accountable for not making it to the gym! Not only does it make you feel absolutely terrible when you miss a workout, it also creates a fun atmosphere filled with support.

  1. Stay Positive

You can do it! Positive reinforcement is crucial for smashing short-term and long-term goals. If you continuously say that your going to reach your goals for the New Year, you already increased your chances by 70 percent!
